About Manoir le Buckingham

No large-scale residence served the Buckingham sector and seniors had to move to Gatineau. The municipality and the Lauzon family, who owned the land, were very keen to build a private seniors’ residence on a human scale.

The site was located in the center of Buckingham, in a peaceful but dynamic area with local services and a very active community life.

The challenge was to integrate the residence between Buckingham Elementary School and the Vallée-de-la-Lièvre Residential Centre, all in a low-density residential area. The project had to be ventilated in order to avoid the compartmentalization between these two buildings. This was done by splitting the middle of the building in two for the top two floors. And for the overall concept, since we were on the site of an old dairy, we thought about an industrial, chic, country style with a classic feel.

We wanted the interior of the residence to be warm and bright with abundant wood accents to create inviting spaces for the residents. The white painted brick and various black accents provided the industrial feel we were looking for. The majestic hallway open to a mezzanine, the large wall with barn wood planks and the choice of wooden light fixtures binds the decor together, which exudes warmth and harmony.

We are proud to have inaugurated the “Salon Lauzon” inside the residence in honor of the family who sold us the land and without whom the project would not have been possible. They were involved and really wanted a residence for the seniors of Buckingham. In addition, we created a beautiful mural at the entrance telling the story of the land and the City.

It was a project of the heart created by people of the heart.
